Day 7: Create a Kindness Pebble to Brighten Someone’s Day | Children’s Creative Summer Challenge

Summer Creative Challenge

Welcome to Day 7 of our Children’s Creative Summer Challenge!
Let’s brighten someone’s day with a surprise act of creative kindness!

Today’s activity is all about spreading smiles in the most colourful way — by painting your very own Kindness Pebble! This is just one idea to get you started, but you could also make a little card, a mini sculpture, or even a cheerful chalk message on the pavement.

The aim? To make someone smile with a handmade surprise. Whether you’re heading to the park, out for a walk, or visiting friends or neighbours, your thoughtful creation could really make someone’s day.

What is a Kindness Pebble?

A Kindness Pebble is a small, painted stone decorated with a cheerful message, design, or friendly face. Once it’s dry, you can leave it somewhere for a stranger to find, give it to a friend, or even post it to someone who could use a little boost. It’s a simple, heartfelt way to show kindness — and have a lot of fun along the way!

At The Creation Station, we believe creativity can make a big difference. With a bit of paint, a sprinkle of imagination, and a big-hearted idea, your little one can help spread some joy this summer.

Supplies needed

What You’ll Need:

  •  A smooth pebble or stone (give it a rinse if it’s a bit muddy)
  • Paint – red is great, but you can use any colour you love
  • A paintbrush or your fingertips
  • A black permanent marker (optional for drawing features or words)
  • A splash of soapy water for clean-up fun afterwards
Great craft to make someone's day

Let’s Get Started: How To Make Your Kindness Pebble

  1. Choose Your Pebble:
Pick a smooth, flat stone — they’re easier to paint on and carry your designs beautifully.

  2. Paint a Heart (or anything happy!):
Dip your fingertip into red paint and press it gently onto your pebble to create a heart shape. You could also paint a rainbow, a star, a sunshine, or anything that makes you smile.

  3. Let it Dry:
Pop your pebble somewhere safe and dry for a few minutes while the paint sets.

  4. Add the Finishing Touches:
Use your black marker to add arms, legs, a face, or even a positive word like “Hope,” “Shine,” “Smile,” or “Be Kind.” This is your chance to really personalise it!

  5. Time to Share the Joy:
Once your pebble is finished, think of someone who might need a little lift. Leave it somewhere for someone to discover or give it to someone you care about. It’s a tiny gift that could spark a big grin!

Why Kindness Pebbles Are So Special

Painting kindness pebbles isn’t just fun — it’s meaningful. By taking a moment to create something thoughtful, your child is also learning about empathy, generosity, and the power of small acts of kindness. It’s a great way to boost wellbeing too — for both the maker and the lucky person who finds the pebble!

You could even turn this into a weekly summer tradition. Create a new pebble each week and take it with you on your adventures — to the beach, on a woodland walk, or to leave near the school gate.
