Welcome to Day 6 of our Children’s Creative Summer Challenge!
Today, we’re inviting you to dive into a magical miniature world and create something truly enchanting… We’ve chosen to make a fairy garden – but what will you create?
This is your chance to let your imagination run wild! Will it be a fairy village, a dinosaur land, a gnome home, or even a tiny jungle? You can use pebbles, twigs, leaves, buttons – anything you can find around the house or garden.
It’s the perfect mix of storytelling and crafting, and a wonderful way to explore small world play using recycled or natural materials.

What You’ll Need:
To make your very own fairy garden, you’ll need:
A shallow box or tray (you can cut one to size)
Soil or compost (optional: sprinkle in some grass seeds to grow your garden!)
A cardboard tube (for your mushroom fairy house)
Coloured card
Felt tips or paint
Glitter foam or coloured paper
Glue
Lolly sticks
Pipe cleaner
Paper or foam scraps (to make tiny clothes)
A clothes peg
Pom poms
Googly eyes
Optional extras: mirror card, feathers, fabric scraps, fake flowers, gems
And of course… a pinch of glitter for fairy dust! ✨

How to Make a Fairy Garden
1. Prepare your garden base
Fill your tray or box with soil. If you’re adding grass seeds, sprinkle them in and give them a light water. Set your base aside in a warm spot so the seeds can start to grow.
2. Create your fairy mushroom house
Use a cardboard tube as the house base. Colour it in with felt tips or paint. Then, cut a circle of card and turn it into a cone shape for the roof. Glue it on and decorate with glitter, foam or felt shapes. Add windows, doors, or even a mini welcome mat!
3. Add a fairy washing line
Push two lolly sticks into your soil and tie a pipe cleaner between them to make your line. Cut out little clothes from foam or paper – a tiny dress, a sparkly top, or even some mini fairy trousers! Hang them up using glue or tape.
4. Make your caterpillar friend
Stick pom poms onto a peg, add googly eyes and decorate however you like. This little creature can guard the fairy garden or be their magical pet!
5. Sprinkle the fairy magic!
Now it’s time to decorate. Add mirror card for a pond, feathers for trees, flowers, gems, or anything you like. Finish with a sprinkling of glitter to invite the fairies in.
