At The Creation Station, we’ve rounded up some of our favourite creative, hands-on activities that are perfect for sunny days. Whether you’re crafting in the shade or playing in the garden, these fun ways to keep kids cool in hot weather are a splash hit every time!

Put Out the Fire with Chalk and Water Pistols
This exciting activity is a big favourite with our creative kids! We drew fiery flames using chalk on the pavement and handed out water pistols. Their mission? Put out the fire!
It’s brilliant for building gross motor skills, encouraging teamwork and – most importantly – keeping everyone cool! Whether you’re at home or in the park, it’s a fab way to mix imaginative play with water fun.
Make Your Own Reusable Water Bombs
Ditch the single-use water balloons and make your own reusable sponge bombs instead! They’re soft, eco-friendly and super easy to make.
Here’s how to do it:
Cut up colourful sponges into strips
Bunch them together with an elastic band
Dunk in water and throw!
Top tip: Pop them in the freezer before playtime for an extra chilly splash!
Frozen Toy Rescue
Got some mini figures lying around? Pop them in a bowl of water and freeze overnight. The next day, give your child warm water, droppers, and tools to rescue their frozen friends. It’s a great mix of science, fine motor fun and sensory play – and it keeps little hands lovely and cool.
Ice Painting Fun
Freeze blobs of paint (or food colouring and water) in ice cube trays with lolly sticks. Then head outside and let kids paint on dark paper or cardboard as the colours melt. It’s a magical way to explore colour mixing and pattern making – all while staying cool.
Cool Water Tray Colour Mixing
Fill a few trays or bowls with cold water and pop in coloured ice cubes. Children can watch the colours melt and swirl together – a calming and creative activity for hot afternoons. Add scoops, cups or spoons for a little extra sensory fun.
