Today’s challenge is all about self-expression! For Day 18, we’re inviting kids to design a t-shirt that celebrates who they are both inside and out.
This fun activity lets children think about what makes them unique—whether it’s their favourite colours, hobbies, or dreams—and turn it into wearable art. With our video, we’ll also be showing a simple screen printing technique so kids can see how their ideas can come to life on fabric.
What You’ll Need:
- A plain t-shirt (light colours work best)
- Fabric paints or pens
- Stencils or cardboard shapes
- Paintbrushes or sponges
- Screen printing kit or DIY mesh screen (optional)
- Newspaper or cardboard to place inside the t-shirt
How to create your design:
- Imagine Your Inside-Out Story: Encourage your child to think about the things that represent who they are on the inside—kindness, bravery, creativity, humour—and also what shows on the outside, like their favourite colours, sports, or animals.
- Sketch Your Design: Grab a piece of paper and sketch ideas. Maybe half the t-shirt shows their “superpowers” on the inside and the other half shows their outside personality.
- Screen print or Paint: Using fabric paints, pens, or our video guide to screen printing, transfer the design onto the t-shirt. If you don’t have a screen, no problem—painting or stencilling works beautifully too.
- Add Details: Add finishing touches like glitter fabric glue, sequins, or extra doodles. This is all about personality, so let creativity shine.
- Wear It with Pride: Once dry, your child will have a wearable masterpiece that tells their story. Perfect for showing off at home, school, or in photos!
