Day 17: Create Your Own Superhero Mask – Children’s Creative Summer Challenge

Every superhero needs a mask – and today’s challenge is all about designing your very own! 🦸‍♀️🦸‍♂️ Wendy and Theo have already been spotted saving the world with theirs, and now it’s your turn to unleash your superpowers through creativity.

A mask isn’t just a disguise – it’s a way to express your superhero identity. Are you Lightning Lass with a mask that zaps with electricity? Or maybe Captain Sparkle with a mask that glitters and shines? Whatever your powers, today you’ll get to bring your superhero self to life!

  • String, ribbon, or elastic

How To Create Your Superhero Mask:

    1. Sketch your design
Start by drawing the outline of your mask on white card. Make sure it’s big enough to cover your face and don’t forget to mark out where your eyes will go!

    2. Cut out your mask
Carefully cut along your pencil lines and cut out the eyeholes. Ask an adult for help if the card is tricky to cut.

    3. Think about your powers
Every superhero has unique powers – what’s yours? Super strength, speed, invisibility, kindness? Once you’ve decided, design a symbol or emblem that shows off your special ability.

    4. Add some super features
Lightning bolts, stars, wings, or even flame shapes – your mask can have anything you like. Sketch them out and cut them separately so you can stick them on.

    5. Decorate in style
Use felt tips, crayons, or paints to add bold colours and patterns. Think about how your superhero personality shines through – bright reds for bravery, blue for calm and strength, or rainbow colours for spreading happiness!

    6. Stick it all together
Attach your emblem and features with glue or sticky tape.

    7. Add the finishing touch
Cut two pieces of string or ribbon, tape them to each side, and tie around your head to wear your mask. Elastic works brilliantly too.

Superhero Storytelling

The best part about making a superhero mask is stepping into character. Once your mask is finished, try creating a mini superhero story. What’s your superhero name? Who are you saving today? Maybe you rescue your toys from a pretend lava floor, or you fly to the kitchen to stop biscuits from disappearing!

Not only does this make your craft more fun, but it also helps you use your imagination in exciting new ways.

Top Tips for Superhero Success

  • If you’re short on time, you can download and print a mask template online to decorate.

  • Add sparkle with sequins, foil, or glitter glue (because some superheroes shine extra bright ✨).

  • Want a group adventure? Get your family or friends to make masks too – you can form your very own superhero team!

  • Remember, superheroes come in all shapes and sizes. Your mask doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s – it’s all about celebrating what makes you super.
