Alexis shares some of the fun she got up to with her two fabulous children during half term.
“So, it’s half term, it’s pancake week (yes, it’s not just a day in our house but a whole week 😂) and we’ve already played with most of the toys in our house! What to do next? Well, we’re huge fans of slime (well, anything messy really) in our house and sugar levels were already pretty high after my two had eaten about half a jar of Nutella on their pancakes for breakfast, so I thought ‘why not try edible slime?’ (I’m a glutton for punishment I know 😂)
The recipe is super simple, just two ingredients which I’m sure most people have in their cupboards and to say my two enjoyed making (and eating it) is an understatement. They loved the process of mixing (and eating) the ingredients and then enjoyed playing with (and eating) it. We added some cake sprinkles to the top when it was mixed for good measure and voila, our own edible chocolate slime dough. The children loved squishing the mixture with their hands and making handprints in it. We even grabbed the Play-Doh tools and they made chocolatey shapes, sculptures and cakes/ice creams that could actually be eaten! This was a nice treat for me too 😉. They even created a chocolate and cake shop with their makes and I even got to drink a (relatively) uninterrupted coffee while they played, before the cleaning up had to begin! We got about half an hour’s play out of this activity which is definitely good going in our house 👍🏻.
If you don’t mind a little bit of mess (mainly a light dusting of icing sugar over most of your kitchen and a trail of chocolatey fingerprints leading from the scene of the activity to their chosen next destination) and your little ones enjoy a sensory and imaginative play task, then give this one a go, they’ll definitely thank you for it……..well, until all the sugar begins to wear off that is 😂🤣.
What You’ll Need
- 1 x 350g jar of chocolate spread
- Icing sugar
- Sprinkles (optional)
- A mixing bowl
- A mixing spoon (or two, or three, depending on how many ‘colleagues’ you have ‘helping’)
- A ¼ cup measure if you have one
Method
Add the jar of chocolate spread to a mixing bowl (trying not to eat it all before the second ingredient is added). Add the icing sugar, about ¼ cup at a time, mixing as you go until some of the moisture in the chocolate spread is absorbed and it begins to resemble a slimy texture. Pour out of the bowl and knead with your hands. It’s a good idea to add a sprinkling of icing sugar to the table before pouring your mixture out to prevent it from sticking to the table. Your slimy dough is then good to go. The more icing sugar you add, the more ‘doughy’ it becomes so if you want to cut shapes etc, add a little more icing sugar until it reaches the desired consistency.
And that’s it, super simple and sure to be a hit with the children. Right, go, get the kettle on while they’re happily playing. Enjoy 😁”
