Make a Mess Free Colour Sorting Game

How often do you see an awesome craft on the internet and find that you would need a shopping basket full of tools and equipment just to get started!  You try it out and discover it’s not the craft for you, and then either feel annoyed at the wasted money – or even worse, obliged to continue the craft despite not enjoying what you are creating! Nightmare!

Here at The Creation Station we have some great solutions to avoid DIY craft disaster.  Your first choice should definitely be to attend one of our ‘Creative Crafter’ workshops.  Our ‘adult only’ workshops are the perfect way to try out many different crafts whilst enjoying a bit of social ‘me time’.  We provide all the tools, materials and sparkles that you will need – and help you with some great tips and inspiration.  We focus on the creative process rather than the end product so you don’t need to be worrying about achieving gold star perfection – we just want you to be proud of your creation and more importantly having lots of fun.  Find out more about ‘Creative Crafters’ HERE.

If a group setting is not your thing, then the next best option is to find fun, crafty activities that you can try at home – without the large price tag attached!

Our Favourite Low Cost Super Awesome Craft Activities

1. Decoupage

A simple activity that only requires a handful of materials to produce some totally unique items.  You can use anything from paper napkins, gift wrap, tissue paper to purpose made decoupage paper if you choose.  A paintbrush, a bottle of PVA glue (or ‘Mod Podge’) and a pair of scissors, and you can decoupage a huge range of gorgeous items.

2. Canvas Mandalas

Totally therapeutic and so simple to make, painted canvas mandalas are definitely a favourite at The Creation Station.  Requiring only a canvas, paint and a pointy tool this activity is truly simple yet can produce amazing results.

3. Pebble Pictures

Endless possibilities and these make a super cute handmade gift.  Pebbles are readily available from builders’ merchants and home improvement retailers – please don’t remove them from our lovely beaches!

4. Glass Charms

These are a great little gift to make for people and are actually super useful at parties when you are trying to keep track of your drink in a sea of glasses.  The wires can often be bought pre-made (search ‘glass charm rings’) from a number of retailers, along with large seed beads and sweet little metal charms to make each glass charm unique.  You will soon be creating oodles of sets to give as gifts (or keep for yourself!)

5. Origami Flowers

What’s not to love about a pretty flower that needs no attention to keep it alive?!  Not only are these super cute when displayed in a vase, but you can even recycle old or damaged books and paper to create them.  There are so many tutorials online you’ll be hard pressed to choose your favourite!

6. Rock Painting

This is a national craze that never seems to go out of fashion.  Great fun for all the family as the design possibilities are endless.  Use acrylic paint and sharpie pens (Posca pens are great for adults) to create a wide range of word doodles, patterns, pictures and mini works of art!  Don’t forget to give it a coat of yacht varnish or spray varnish lacquer when your decoration is dry so that your creation is weather-proof.  Many towns have parks and public locations where people hide their rock creations to be later found by someone else! Children absolutely love finding these hidden gems and then leaving their own little rock monster masterpiece for the next person to enjoy.

7. Button Canvases

We love buttons! There are so many different shapes, sizes and enough colours to make the brightest rainbow!  A super simple activity to try at home and enjoy!
