Leaving teaching provided a new opportunity after life as a teacher

Demand for Creative Activities Is On The Increase

“I’m so pleased I changed my career to run my own Creation Station. The demand for creative activities for children is on the increase. During my first week, I have secured six Create Clubs in schools” .

Esther decided she was ready for a change from her twenty years in teaching.

Esther decided to leave teaching to pursue her passion for supporting children’s creativity to life. Esther has launched her own Creation Station and now provides art and crafts classes, clubs, parties and events in Northampton.

We are thrilled to welcome Esther to our wonderful Creation Station franchise family of Creative Ambassadors.

Read and listen to Esthers story.

My background

For the last twenty years I have been teaching art and design in secondary schools and as a Head of the faculty training the new generation of teachers to inspire children to be as creative and imaginative as they can be. More recently I have been teaching children art and design at a primary school which I have really enjoyed. I have found that younger children are more curious, willing to explore ideas and let their imaginations run wild!

Why I wanted to work for myself

I decided to work for myself by choosing The Creation Station franchise. This opportunity allows me to work with all ages in the creative arts field whilst working the hours that I set. It’s a good time in my career to be self-employed to fit around my family and work.

I am a parent to two amazing boys Travis and Blake. Both are thrilled that I have chosen this new and exciting path and are both keen to get involved. Since a young age they have been involved with the arts and have joined me in clubs I have run at school. Proudly Travis is on target to achieve a A* for his art GCSE this year. My husband Mark is fully supportive. We both believe that I will enjoy the challenge and also enjoy the social side of meeting lots of new people.

Why I decided to invest in a franchised business

I decided to invest in a franchise as the organisation and training offered is amazing. I have a few gaps in knowledge that I knew I’d need support with. I also like the idea of still being part of a team to share ideas and successes with.

Why I chose The Creation Station

I discovered The Creation Station by coming across the website and watching a number of the videos. As I work in a primary school I investigated further and none of the local schools in my area offered any creative clubs for their children. When my children were little, I loved the bonding and social setting of clubs as a new mum, which is also a reason it appealed to me.

How I financed my new business

I have financed my business with some savings and money left to me by my late father. He was my biggest support, so I want to build a thriving business and make him and my family proud.

Working in the primary education sector over the last two years I had considered retraining as an early year’s primary teacher and using my savings to cover the costs.

However, The Creation Station enables me to still work with children, be creative and make a difference, plus be my own boss with support. This gives me much more scope than being in teaching could ever give me.

Exploring my options

I watched lots of videos about the business and read reviews. I also downloaded an info pack and went to an online Discovery Morning.

The Discovery Event was run by an existing Franchise partner and Ruth Morris who had been a franchise partner, sold her business and emigrated, and now works as part of the central support team.  The team clearly explained the process of setting up the business,  plus the thorough training and support at each step of the way. As a group we were able to ask lots of questions and I really liked that the training was led by people who had gone through the process of launching and running their own successful Creation Station.

Esthers wonderful boys

I think creativity is so important.

Working with lots of creative and amazing children over the years I have experienced so many joyful moments, such as children exploring new materials for the first time and knowing it’s alright to get messy, a child squealing with delight achieving an A grade to get into university after watching them grow over seven years and that been

I love that creativity is inclusive for all. Everyone can express themselves and be proud of what they can achieve with a little guidance and encouragement.

Launching my Creation Station

I’ve already got six clubs set up and excited to bring creativity to children and families in lots of schools and villages. I am also looking forward to the excitement and fun when the children attend parties and different events that I can provide with the wide range of activities The Creation Station has on offer.
