A past career in teaching and a love of art made Creation Station the perfect choice for Jo.

The Creation Station welcomed Jo Troughton to its team at the beginning of October, giving her the chance to focus on bringing the joy of creativity to local families within Clitheroe and the Ribble Valley.

The Creation Station is the UK's most recommended Children's Activities Provider and provides creative activities for all ages designed to spark curiosity and release the wonder within.

Jo cannot wait to bring creative classes, parties and events to Clitheroe and the Ribble Valley:

“I want to focus on providing art opportunities for children in my local community, which has always been my dream.”

Jo Troughton - The Creation Station Clitheroe and the Ribble Valley

Jo has been a primary school teacher for 12 years, specialising in Art, and before that she worked in the arts doing research and projects including curating a collection of artworks loaned to hospitals with the charity Paintings in Hospitals.

A recent health diagnosis made Jo re-evaluate her life and even though she was enjoying teaching, she needed to be able to work more flexibly while still focusing on offering creative opportunities to children.

“I’ve taught for twelve years and know that children love making and being allowed to explore and experiment which sadly there isn’t enough time for at school, given the amount to be fitted into the curriculum.  I set up an artist-in-residency at Great Ormond Street Hospital, several years ago, for the artist Sean Michael. It was just amazing seeing the determination of the children to draw and collage, despite the drips and medication they were having to endure.”

Jo and her husband enjoying the local area

After completing some local research Jo came across The Creation Station and was instantly drawn to it:

“I liked the values and the ethos of the organisation which definitely feel in-tune with my own.”

She also loved the idea of having support behind her as she launched her business:

I wanted to have the knowledge and support from others who have run similar businesses and to be part of a network.  I was familiar with running a charity which included hiring out a gallery space and marketing to artists and healthcare organisations, but the world has moved on a lot since then particularly with social media.”

We are so proud to support Jo as she launches her successful business - she is most looking forward to:

“Meeting new children and families, encouraging imaginations – and having fun!”
