Day 19: Craft Your Own Trophy – Children’s Creative Summer Challenge

Have you ever won a trophy before? 🏆 Whether it’s for sports day, a quiz, a dance competition—or even just for being your family’s best joke teller—trophies make us feel special. But you don’t need to wait until someone else gives you one… today, it’s time to create your own personalised trophy!

As part of Day 19 of the Children’s Creative Summer Challenge, we’ll be showing you a simple step-by-step video on how to design and make a crafty trophy at home. This is a fantastic way to celebrate your creativity, role play as winners of fun challenges, and even make trophies to gift to friends and family. Because let’s be honest—everyone deserves to feel like a champion sometimes!

Why Make a Crafty Trophy?

Crafting a trophy is more than just a fun activity. It gives children the opportunity to:
Celebrate achievements – Whether big or small, a handmade trophy is a wonderful way to mark success.
Boost confidence – Designing and holding a personalised trophy helps kids feel proud of themselves.
Encourage imaginative play – Trophies can be used in role play games, award ceremonies, or family fun nights.
Get creative together – Making a trophy is quick, simple, and a great way for the whole family to join in.

Plus, unlike shop-bought trophies, yours will be totally unique and full of personal meaning.

What You’ll Need:

Here’s a list of the simple supplies you can use (don’t worry if you don’t have everything—swap in whatever you do have at home):

  • A paper cup
  • Gold or silver paint (or even foil to wrap around your cup)
  • Cardboard or thick paper for handles and a base
  • Scissors and glue
  • Decorations such as sequins, gems, glitter, or stickers
  • Markers or pens to personalise your trophy

How to make your trophy:

Our video will guide you through each stage, but here’s a quick overview of the steps:

  1. Prepare your cup – This will be the main body of your trophy. Paint it gold or silver and let it dry.

  2. Make the handles – Cut two handle shapes from cardboard and glue them onto the sides of your cup.

  3. Add a base – Cut a circle or square from cardboard and stick your cup firmly onto it so your trophy stands tall.

  4. Decorate – This is the fun part! Use sequins, gems, stickers, glitter, or anything you like to make your trophy sparkle.

  5. Personalise it – Write a name, title, or achievement on the front. Maybe it’s “Best Big Sister,” “Champion Lego Builder,” or “Super Star of the Week.”

And there you have it—your very own one-of-a-kind crafty trophy!

Extra Ways to Use Your Trophy

Once you’ve made your trophy, there are so many fun ways to use it:

  • Family award nights – Celebrate silly achievements like “Best Dance Moves” or “Most Giggles at Dinner.”

  • Role play fun – Create competitions, host ceremonies, and pretend to be athletes or celebrities.

  • Classroom or group prizes – Teachers and group leaders can make trophies with children to reward teamwork and effort.

  • Gifts of appreciation – Make a trophy for a parent, grandparent, or friend as a heartfelt handmade gift.

Why Craft Activities Matter

Every project in our Children’s Creative Summer Challenge is designed to spark joy, build confidence, and encourage kids to express themselves. Today’s trophy-making activity is no different. By celebrating their own strengths and achievements—or those of people they love—children learn the importance of recognising effort, sharing positivity, and having fun with creativity.
