Day 13: Create Your Own Cheerful Postcard – Children’s Creative Summer Challenge

Welcome to Day 13 of our Children’s Creative Summer Challenge!

Today’s activity is all about spreading joy. We’re inviting you to design your very own postcard and write a cheerful message to someone special. It could be a friend, family member, or even a neighbour — nothing brightens someone’s day like a colourful, hand-made note!

This activity is wonderful for developing creativity, fine motor skills, writing practice, and emotional expression. Plus, it’s a lovely way to encourage thoughtfulness and kindness.

What You’ll Need:

  • Blank postcards or sturdy card/paper cut to postcard size
  • Coloured pens, pencils, or markers
  • Stickers, washi tape, or other decorative items
  • Glue or tape (optional)
  • Stamps if you plan to post your postcard

How to Make Your Cheerful Postcard:

    1. Design the front – Draw, paint, or collage a colourful image. It could be a landscape, your favourite animal, or a rainbow.

    2. Add decorations – Stickers, glitter, or other embellishments make it extra special.

    3. Write your message – Keep it cheerful and positive! You could share a fun memory, a joke, or simply a “thinking of you” note.

    4. Address and send – If you’re posting it, don’t forget the recipient’s address and a stamp. If it’s a hand-delivered note, pop it in an envelope or hand it over with a smile.

Ideas to Inspire:

  • Create a mini comic strip on your postcard front.

  • Use a theme like “summer fun” or “fantasy worlds” for your design.

  • Try a pop-up postcard for a 3D surprise.

  • Encourage siblings or friends to write their own messages, then send a bundle of happy postcards to loved ones.
