Day 12: Make Your Own Ice Cream – Children’s Creative Summer Challenge

Welcome to Day 12 of our Children’s Creative Summer Challenge!

Today we’re celebrating one of summer’s favourite treats in a fun, hands-on craft. Making your own ice cream craft is a brilliant way for children to explore colours, textures, and creativity — without melting in the sun!

Whether you use paper, foam, clay, or even shaving foam for a fluffy, sensory version, this activity is perfect for letting imaginations run wild. You can create classic scoops, rainbow cones, or even invent your own fantastical flavours.

What You’ll Need:

    • Coloured paper, foam, or card (or paint your own)

    • Glue or tape

    • Scissors

    • Optional: Cotton wool, sequins, glitter, buttons, or other decorative materials

    • Optional: Recycled materials like bottle caps, cupcake cases, or scraps of fabric

    • Optional: Shaving foam and food colouring for a fluffy, sensory ice cream version

How to make your ice cream craft:

  1. Cut out your ice cream shapes – cones, scoops, or any fun design you like.

  2. Decorate the scoops – Use colour, glitter, sequins, or patterns to make them look delicious.

  3. Assemble your ice cream – Glue or tape your scoops onto your cone base.

  4. Fluffy version: Mix a little shaving foam with food colouring to create a textured, soft “ice cream scoop” and place it on your cone.

  5. Add fun toppings – Buttons, beads, or cotton wool “sprinkles” make it extra special.

  6. Display or play – Use your ice cream craft for imaginative play, room décor, or even a summer-themed card
