Day 11: Make Your Own Rainbow Craft – Children’s Creative Summer Challenge

Sometimes you only have a few minutes, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make something bright, colourful, and full of joy! Today’s challenge is all about creating your own beautiful rainbow craft in just five minutes. Perfect for rainy afternoons, waiting for dinner to cook, or simply when you want a quick creative burst.

This activity is great for developing fine motor skills, colour recognition, hand-eye coordination, and creativity — all while filling your space with cheerful rainbow vibes!

And the best part? You can adapt it however you like. Whether you go for classic bold colours, pastel shades, or even a glitter rainbow, your creation is yours to make and enjoy.

Materials needed for quick rainbow craft

What You’ll Need:

  • Coloured paper, card, or fabric scraps (or colour in your own using pens or paints)
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick or PVA glue
  • Optional: Cotton wool, sequins, glitter, or anything else you’d like to decorate with
Add all your colours

How to Make Your Quick Rainbow Craft:

    1. Cut out your rainbow arcs – Use coloured paper or card, or colour your own, then cut them into arc shapes.

    2. Arrange your colours – Place them in the classic red-to-violet order, or mix them up for your own unique pattern.

    3. Glue into place – Stick each arc down onto your background paper or card.

    4. Add fluffy clouds – Glue on cotton wool balls or scrunched-up white tissue paper to each end of your rainbow.

    5. Decorate – Add glitter, sequins, stickers, or even draw little scenes under your rainbow.

let your quick rainbow craft dry

Ideas to Inspire:

  • Create a collage rainbow using fabric scraps or magazine cut-outs.

  • Make a 3D rainbow by folding your arcs into loops before gluing.

  • Use natural materials — think leaves, petals, or sand — to make an eco rainbow.

  • Write an inspiring message under your rainbow and gift it to a friend or neighbour.

add any extra bits to your quick rainbow craft such as glitter or gold coins
