This really low-prep activity provides a fun hands-on activity for children. Perfect for allowing children to explore and engage with their environment.
You can do this activity in your garden or at the park, or you could even give it a go next time you’re at the beach.
It has so many developmental benefits such as fine and gross motor skills, language, balance, hand-eye coordination, problem solving, concentration, creativity and more.
Here’s some simple steps to help you and your little one have fun making your own nature art:
Nature Art
You’ll need:
A selection of natural materials
(Sam and her family collected dropped leaves, petals and flowers, and even a few weeds from around the garden! Sam and her family also had some shells from a recent trip to the seaside)
Optional – Something to collect your materials in, such as a bucket or a bag (useful to keep everything together)
Optional – Paper or a tray to create your art on (or you can do this straight onto the ground.
Ideas To Inspire:
- Collect some natural materials and use them to create some art – have fun and remember there is no right or wrong way to create nature art!
The possibilities for play and creativity with this activity are endless.
Here are some of our favourite ideas to get you started:
- Use your surroundings as inspiration – can you create a flower, a tree, or a bird?
- Sort your natural materials into different piles – e.g. by colour, by type (i.e. leaves, petals, twigs), by size etc.
- Use the materials to create nature faces – or even a whole body if you have enough materials!
Can you make a pattern using the materials?
