Try free preschool activities at dance studios this weekend

Dance classes could be an ideal preschool activity for toddlers, and dance studios all over the country will be offering two days of free sessions for children this weekend.

The dance classes will be available for children and adults on March 6th and 7th, and they can try different styles of movement, including tap, ballet and street dance in participating studios, gyms and leisure centres.

Mums and dads working from home could even have a go – if their children can handle the embarrassment, that is.

The dance weekend is being run as part of the government's Let's Dance campaign, aimed at getting children into exercise and promoting health and fitness.

It is being held in partnership with Change4Life and there are more than 1,400 classes nationwide where parents can take their children.

Gillian Merron, the public health minister at the Department for Health, said: "Dancing is a great way for people to be healthy – it burns calories, strengthens bones and therefore cuts the risk of becoming overweight or obese. The great thing about dance is that anybody can do it. You can dance in any style, with friends, on your own and at any age."

She said children should have one hour of activity every day, and dancing is a good way to reach that goal.ADNFCR-2563-ID-19652810-ADNFCR
