Local Creative Play Programme Signs Up To National Campaign

A national campaign calling for children to be allowed challenging and adventurous play opportunities is being supported by UK's leading play specialist, The Creation Station.

The Creation Station  is holding a special ‘Mini Bugs and Beasties' ‘Imagination!' session in  Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire  as part of the Playday  2008 celebrations. Children aged one to eleven years of age, along with a parent or carer, will be inspired to design and create their own creatures with polystrene and maize modeling materials. Their imaginations will also be fired up paint and design their own butterfly or moth.  The Creation Station is offering the play day session  for free and due to popularity places need to be pre-booked.

Playday events are being held all around the UK during the summer months with this year's aim being to shake off the ‘cotton wool' culture that can limit children's play.

Founder of the award winning Creation Station, Sarah Cressall said: "This annual event brings together everyone who is passionate about promoting play and we are delighted to be taking part".

The campaign theme this year is ‘Give us a go!' It is sending out the message that children and young people need to learn how to manage challenge and risk for themselves and adults should provide opportunities for adventurous and exciting play. The hands on art and craft exploration sessions that make up the Creation Station programme enable even very young children to safely experiment with a wide range of tools, materials and ideas that they probably would not have access to at home.
